Halloween

Susie was awake,
it was midnight or so.
Afraid to sleep,
knowing the monsters would show.

But Susie was prepared,
they'd never take her alive!
She had a weapon,
and aimed to survive.

The monsters would creep
into her room for sure.
But Susie would be waiting,
plotting and more.

The door creaked open, and
the monsters stepped in.
 Not knowing the matter,
or the trap they were in.

Susie sprang from the bed,
torchlight in hand.
"Get out you monsters!" she shouted,
with command.

The monsters leapt back,
afraid of the light.
Then laughed at the girl,
and noticed her fright.

"A misunderstanding,"
one monster spoke at last.
"We're not here to scare you,"
he said to the lass.

"It's always been our custom,"
listened the confused girl.
"To visit on Halloween,
but to not use the door."

They gifted her with candy,
and all sorts of treats.
The monsters were nice she decided,
despite the scary teeth.

They played all night,
with the full moon above.
Until the sun showed up,
ending the fun.

"It's time for us to go,
we can no longer stay here, but
Happy Halloween,
and we'll see you next year!"
